Disney’s Most Popular Resort Is Getting A Moana-Style Makeover For 2021

If themed resorts are your shtick, mark your calendar for US summer 2021: one of Disney World’s most iconic and beloved resorts is getting a Moana-style makeover.

After shutting down in March due to the pandemic, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort announced it would remain closed this October, instead reopening in 2021 with a fresh new look.

That look will be inspired by badass Polynesian character Moana, from the eponymous film.

The Moana-inspired refresh will see changes made to the resort’s main guest rooms and the Great Ceremonial House, but according to People, while the decor will be inspired by the 2016 animated film, the hotel won’t stray too far from the integrity of its original design. Read: it won’t be elaborately re-themed as a Moana resort.

Not to worry, though – the Moana influence will be strong across design details, patterns and textures, with a colour palette inspired by the Pacific Ocean and islands.

The Polynesian Village Resort is one of the original Disney resorts (open since 1971) located on the actual Disney property in Orlando, Florida. That means dealing with way less crowds and kicking back in a literal South Pacific island-themed oasis after a fun-packed day at Disney World.

It has its own a white sand beach, a volcano pool, waterslides galore, Hawaiian-style eateries including an on-site pineapple Dole Whip counter(!!) and you can watch the Magic Kingdom fireworks without needing to leave. Plus, if you want your kids to absolutely froth first thing in the morning, book a Disney character breakfast at Ohana (don’t forget to order Mickey waffles).

As popular as it is expensive, countless bloggers warn that once you stay at the ‘Poly’, you’ll be ruined for all other Disney World experiences.

“Seriously, don’t stay at Disney’s Polynesian Resort unless you are ready for it to be your best Disney experience ever. It is so good that it will be hard to stay elsewhere knowing how easy, relaxing, and enjoyable things can be at this on-the-monorail deluxe resort,” says Summer Hull from The Points Guy.

“We absolutely loved our time here. However, I am serious when I warn that staying here may spoil you to the point that you don’t want to go back to staying at an off-property, less expensive option.”
