Sydney Has Made The Top 10 List Of Best Cities In The World For The Third Year Running

Sometimes it’s hard being the best. Sometimes, it’s not — like when you make the top 10 of Condé Nast Traveler‘s ‘Best Cities in the World’ list for the third year in a row like Sydney just did.

Now, these lists may be chosen by the people’s choice, but there are always a LOT of votes that go into the final decision. This year over 600,000 readers participated — so that’s a pretty substantial sample size, don’t you think?

What’s more, apparently Sydney is getting better. In 2018 it ranked sixth on the list, in 2019 in went down to tenth, but in 2020 it’s moved up to the top five and taken out fourth spot.

“Australia’s largest city is an ideal getaway no matter the season,” said the Condé Nast team. “Dine al fresco, swim like a Sydneysider in rock pools, and head to Bondi and Redleaf beaches in the summer”.

“In winter, explore the city’s vibrant arts and culture calendar through Vivid Sydney and make time to eat out in Paddington, check out the cool-kid neighborhood [sic] of Surry Hills, and ferry over to Manly”.

Couldn’t have put it better myself, really.

Sydney was the only Australian city to make the top 10 this year, even though Melbourne ranked in third place in 2018. Don’t worry Melbourne, we still love you.

It’s a particularly good time to celebrate this fourth best city in the world though, now that it’s heating back up. Get some culture at the Van Gogh: Alive exhibition, take a dip away from the crowds of Bondi, or just enjoy a drink or 10 at the best rooftop bars.

The top three spots this year were taken out by Kyoto, Lyon (France) and Singapore (in that order), so Sydney is in pretty good company. You can check out the full list here, or keep scrolling, whichever floats your boat.
