You’ve Gotta Eat This: Poke

What is it? An ubiquitous dish around Hawaii’s fair shores, poke is the appetiser to end all appetisers.

Where can you get it? All across Hawaii (though it is popping up on modern menus across oceans too). Some of the best can be found at Ono Seafood, Aloha Cones and Maguro Brothers Hawaii, all in Honolulu.

What’s in it? So it’s basically a raw fish salad. Most poke dishes start with fresh cut cubes of yellowfin tuna, soy sauce, sweet onions and sesame oil. Other extras can include chilli pepper, sea salt, fish eggs, wasabi and limu seaweed.

Is it good for you? Yeah, it’s not bad! If you’re a fan of sushi and sashimi, we’d venture to say you’d probably love this too.

How much does it cost? You’d easily grab a big bole of poke for under $10.
