In Another World First, Wonder Woman Is Getting Her Own Rollercoaster

It’s been a blockbuster year of firsts thanks to Wonder Woman: it was the first female-led superhero film in more than a decade, as well as the first to be directed by a woman. Plus, Wonder Woman was the very first female superhero to get her own movie in the comic book cosmos, which is equally deserving of commendation.

Now, US theme park Six Flags has unveiled its plans for a thrilling new attraction in honour of Diana, Princess of the Amazons: a brand new, one-of-a-kind “Wonder Woman: Lasso of Truth” roller coaster at the company’s San Antonio, Texas, park will begin construction this week.

The film’s success has inspired a Six Flags first, with the introduction of the world’s first ever single-rail roller coaster. Inspired by her iconic whip, the sleek new design will allow the coaster to speed along a single 40cm-wide steel track as smoothly as possible, as if guests were flying alongside Wonder Woman herself.

Six Flags Vice President and chief engineer Larry Chickola told USA Today the ride would be “crazy fun” with “extremely quick twists and turns – quicker and smoother than regular coasters”. It will carry eight passengers at a time, with each in a single seat allowing a 360-degree view of the park while flying.

Wonder Woman: Lasso of Truth is scheduled to open in 2018. Go girl.
