This place is an adventurer’s paradise – the lodge is located inland on New Zealand’s South Island, about a five hour drive from Christchurch. Nestled near the picturesque Roys Bay, Whare Kea is a great base for those keen on heading out into the great wilderness to partake in a few of those thrill-seeking activities that NZ is most famous for.

There’s cycling, horse-riding, scenic flights and local alpine skiing at Cardrona Alpine Resort and Treble Cone Resort. For a notch down in the thrill stakes, there’s the local Central Otago winery for a bit of afternoon schmoozing.

The lodge sits on the shores of Lake Wanaka, which is like a perfect blue mirror that reflects the stunning mountain ranges that surround it. Each of the rooms at Whare Kea have floor to ceiling windows, so the view really is the focal point. Rooms are super luxurious and the lodge is ideal for small groups who intend on using it as a base for the greater Wanaka region.
