Santorini, the gem of the Aegean Sea, is a well known Greece must-do – it’s the kind of place that elicits a resounding sigh from anyone who mentions it. It’s picture perfect Greece with its white washed architecture, steep cliffs littered with houses and that stunning blue lagoon.

It’s basically Instagram heaven, and we’ve found the perfect spot to soak up all that beauty while staying true to the history of the old fishing town – it might even take you back to 1864.

The cleverly reimagined hideaway of 1864 The Sea Captain’s House can be found in the small town of Oia, nestled on the cliff edge overlooking the Aegean crater lagoon. As the name suggests, this luxury hotel was once a 19th century captain’s home recently renovated to reflect a part of history, with modern influences scattered around.

With an all-white colour scheme, The Sea Captain’s House oozes luxury and class – the centrepiece room, the Cave Suite, has been carved into the rock face and has a light airy feel, despite the lack of windows.

The family run hotel have catered for your every need at this luxurious paradise – there’s a deep soaking tub in the bathroom, a private yard and seaside terrace, and a “lazy breakfast” option which runs long into the afternoon if the thought of getting up early seems like too much of a hassle in this Greek utopia.

Ideal for two to four guests, the Cave Suite is one of Oia’s oldest cave houses and still has its original arc ceiling. There are also three other unique rooms on offer at The Sea Captain’s House, including the Venetian Suite, the Captain’s Suite and the Sailing Suite, each with their own stunning panoramic views of the ocean.
