Wish You Were Here: Loisaba Star Beds

As far as outdoor experiences go, drifting off to sleep under a blanket of stars is up there with the best of them, and you can do exactly that with the Star Beds at the Loisaba Conservancy in Laikipia, Kenya.

There are two sets of Star Beds on offer at the Loisaba Conservancy. The first set is located on a small hill in one of the eastern valleys and overlooks the Kiboko waterhole. The second set is located eight kilometres further south on the banks of the Ewaso N’giro River. The beds are part of a joint venture between Loisaba and the Laikipiak Maasai people from the Koija community and each bedroom is cantilevered over the flowing river and can be reached by footbridge from the bank.

The hand-crafted beds are on wall-free wooden raised platforms that are partially covered by a thatched roof. The rooms can be reached by horse, camel, car or foot and once you arrive you’ll be able to watch the beautiful sunset over the desert and enjoy some pretty unique surrounds.
