Wish You Were Here: Likuliku Lagoon, Fiji

Sometimes you can wax lyrical about a spot, detailing all the different ways the place is cool or interesting, but other times, you just need to let the pictures speak for themselves. Everyone, it’s time to set your sights on Fiji, and the incredible Likuliku Lagoon. Wow… just wow.

You’ll find the Likuliku Lagoon on Malolo Island in the Mamanuca archipelago, about 25 kilometres from Nadi International Aiport. Likuliku translates to ‘calm waters’ from the Malolo dialect, and it couldn’t be more fitting. This lodge is an ecological treasure in the wild, and functions as a refuge for marine life and local flora and fauna.

There are 45 stylish bures on offer at Likuliku, each built using traditional architectural forms and featuring natural materials from the region. Your hardest decision at Likuliku will be what kind of bure you’d like – there’s the beachfront bures, garden front bures and the over-water bures. Our pick has gotta be the latter.

Of the ten unique over-water bures that sit above the coral reef, each of them allow access from their own private balcony straight into the bright blue ocean.

The resort is flush with amenities too, from a gymnasium to jet ski hire to the in-house spa. There’s a local restaurant on site too, the Fijiana Restaurant, that specialises in fresh local seafood and tropical fruits from across the South Pacific.

You’re also encouraged to take part in the myriad of land and sea tours on offer from Likuliku that cover the surrounding Mamanuca islands.
