Melbourne Is Transforming Into A Winter Wonderland Complete With Snow And Ice Skating

Winter is coming — the Game of Thrones version and the season — and pretty soon in Aus we’ll all be freezing our butts off without any of the magical, snowy goodness that you get in cooler climes. Not fair. Luckily, blessed Melbourne aims to change that with the Winter Village at Fed Square.

Taking over the roof of the Fed Square carpark, the Winter Village is bringing everything good about a European winter down under. We’re talking gently falling snow every hour, on the hour, ice skating, igloos and hot cocktails.

Ice skating sessions last for 45 minutes and run every hour, seven days a week. You’ll get all the gear you need with your ticket, and there’s extra protective gear available if you’re worried you might take an icy tumble.

There’s a dining and drinking hall to warm up in afterwards, serving everything you could ever desire during the cold months. The Feast kitchen is slinging pizza, toasted cheese sandwiches, fried chicken and halloumi your way all winter long, and head to Sip bar to get your cold lil’ hands on a steaming hot winter cocktail or hot chocolate.

Or dine in style inside a private igloo. You and up to seven friends can kick back with a grazing box full of nibbles, pizzas and espresso martini ice cream pops in a see-through igloo — so you can look out over the stunning Melbourne city skyline views while you stay warm.

A full event program will be released soon, but you can expect live music, pop-up bars and perhaps even an ugly Christmas jumper party.

The Winter Village is open seven days a week from now until August. You can book ice skating tickets and igloo packages on the website, or visit the kitchen and bar at any time without a booking.
