Wings Lovers, Rejoice: Sydney’s New American-Style Sports Bar Is Here

Winghaus Sydney opening

Last September, Rockpool Dining Group graced Brisbane with its new American-style wings and beer emporium, Winghaüs by Bavarian. But we can’t let Brisbane have all the sports bar fun, can we?

Enter the brand-new Winghaüs, coming soon to Sydney (against your doctor’s orders).

Sydney’s outpost is opening in Circular Quay’s Gateway Centre on January 26, just in time for the long weekend. It’s taking over the space formerly occupied by Rockpool Dining Group’s Burger Project concept.

Winghaüs is an offshoot of the Bavarian bar brand, but it’s largely indebted to the land of red, white and blue. The chief appeal of Winghaüs is right there in the name: buffalo chicken wings in various quantities, maxing out at 100 pieces for the truly ravenous.

True to the USA theme, you can dress up your wings in various hot sauces, from the easygoing Texas BBQ to the caution-advised Afterburner to the self-explanatory Face Melting. They also experiment with real Americana variations like Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey-fried wings with sticky sauce.

Wings aren’t your thing?

Winghaüs doubles down on the roadside diner vibe with deep fried pickles, collard greens, onion rings and a selection of burgers. As for drinks, the menu skews beery, with a huge selection of lagers, ales, IPAs and wheat beers from the US, Germany and Australia. Rest assured: they also do a frozen margarita, espresso martini and Aperol spritz.

Every American-themed bar on this scale also demands wall-to-wall sports in high definition. The expansive space features live sports on 20 television screens so you’ll never miss a play. You’ll find UFC fights on the schedule every weekend, while Monday February 3, 2020 is already reserved for the Super Bowl.
