Premiere: Watch Angus & Julia Stone’s European Tour Videos

Today we’re premiering behind the scenes footage from ethereal folk-pop siblings Angus & Julia Stone‘s recent European tour which lets us in on the parts we don’t normally get to see – from sound check to impromptu green room practice to their ritual of collectively fist pumping to ‘What Do We Do With A Drunken Sailor’ prior to taking the stage. And all to the backdrop of some of Europe’s most iconic cities.

Angus & Julia had a surprisingly huge 2014. As reported in this Faster Louder longform Headliner, the duo had decided to take a well-earned break – maybe even work on their solo careers – after their 2010 ARIA-topping album Down The Way. The plan to go separate ways, however, was cut short by an email from iconic producer Rick Rubin. The same Rick Rubin who cofounded Def Jam Records, discovered the Beastie Boys and worked with Metallica, U2, Weezer, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Adele, Slayer and Lady Gaga. The result of this email was 2014’s Rubin-produced album Angus & Julia Stone which put the duo firmly back on the Australian music map and led them to again take out the top spot on the ARIA chart.

On the videos, Julia says: “I guess what’s nice about watching these videos back is seeing how many places we played – how much joy we get out of this weird life. Hector, the guy filming, was a part of the family and we just got used to having him around. It didn’t really feel like we were being watched so it’s nice to see how we all naturally interact… a good insight to what really happens on the road. It was really special to capture this particular tour as it was in some magical venues. We started out playing open mic nights in London and finished our tour at a sold out Hammersmith Apollo. It’s been such a journey. We’ve been through so much together and to be here now after everything that happens along the way…we’re really excited for the fans to see the videos. I really feel like this is the first time, the people who we are – Angus, myself, the band and the crew – really gets to be seen.”

We’ll be premiering one video per day over three days so stay tuned. The release of these videos also coincides with the announce that Angus & Julia Stone will be releasing a Special Edition Package of their self-titled album on February 13. The special edition will feature a second disc of 11 live songs recorded during their 2014 World Tour.

Angus & Julia also kick off their Australian national tour on February 4. Click here for ticket links.
