This Luxury Hotel Is Inside A Former Prison
Spending a night in jail isn’t something anyone would actively seek out – but when a former jail block has been refurbished into a luxury hotel like this one, it might just make you change your mind.
You’ll find this swanky hotel in Boston, Massachusetts, in the old Charles Street Jail. Built in 1851, the Charles Street Jail was iconic in its hey-day. It housed the likes of Malcolm X, famed Boston Mayor James Michael Curley, and even some German WWII prisoners of war.

When the Charles Street Jail closed in 1990, the building was used by the Massachusetts General Hospital until it was ultimately sold and reopened in 2007 as a 298-room luxury hotel. The building has retained a lot of its historic structure, including its central octagonal rotunda and impressive atrium, which is now used as the hotel’s lobby.
Inside this architectural gem, you’ll find many original details, like the old iron gates and even some of the prison’s original cells in the hotel’s top-notch restaurant, CLINK (I see what you did there).
Guest rooms are contemporary, filled with light and offer a commanding view over the greater Boston area.
A little odd? Sure. But I’m willing to bet you’ll forget about this place’s past as soon as you step foot in that glorious lobby.
