This Kenyan Hotel Lets You Share Your Breakfast With Giraffes

Checking into the Giraffe Manor hotel, you’ll notice a few things – the beautiful ’30s art deco façade, the timely elegant interiors and a few dozen giraffes poking their heads in through the windows just to say “hey”.

Located in southern Nairobi, Giraffe Manor is a pretty special safari experience that allows you to interact with a herd of Rothschild giraffe that live off the property. This is probably the only hotel in the world where you can share your breakfast with a giraffe – the beautiful creatures often visit in the morning, poking their long necks into your window hoping for a treat. Their appetite is pretty insatiable though, so let them know when to stop or risk losing the majority of your complimentary breakfast.

The giraffe who meander around Giraffe Manor live at the AFEW Giraffe Centre across the lawn. The centre is a sanctuary for endangered Rothschild giraffe where you can learn about their breeding and take a guided walk around the sanctuary.

If giraffes aren’t your thing, take a short drive to the Langata area where you can visit the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust to meet and feed baby elephants.

Giraffe Manor has named all its rooms after the resident giraffes at the AFEW Giraffe Centre; Betty, Lynn, Arlene, Daisy, Jock, Marlon, Helen and Kelly. There are also two suites – one named after Karen Blixen (author of Out of Africa) and the other named after her lover, Finch Hatton.
