The Colosseum Is Now Offering Tours At Night

Rome’s most iconic landmark has just undergone a huge restoration and wants to show you how pretty it looks under lights.

The 3000-year-old landmark is a must see attraction on any trip to Rome. Now, the Colosseum is inviting guests in to explore the ancient 50,000 seat arena after hours. This is especially great news for all those people who prefer to have a sleep in or just generally enjoy the ambience of nighttime exploring.

The evening tour has previously only been open to private groups but now, with a $25AUD ticket, anyone from the public can go along. While the ticket is more expensive than a daytime pass (which will set you back around $17AUD), you’ll get to do more than you can when it’s light out. For example, the nighttime ticket gives you exclusive access to the underground area where the animals were caged before battle.

The introduction of nighttime tours has come after the ancient arena’s much needed facelift last year. Joining the restoration of the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps, a bit of cleaning and elbow grease has made the attraction sparkle better than ever before. Unfortunately, the Colosseum continues to draw quite a bit of vandalism, so local groups are currently campaigning to ensure it keeps looking fresh and clean for years to come.

The nighttime tours currently run every day except Tuesdays and Saturdays until June. Nighttime tours will run every day from June through September.
