2017’s Sydney Festival program has been announced, and NSW’s capital will soon be home to the Southern Hemisphere’s biggest ball pit. The best news? You can swim in for as long as you like for free. Looks like the Sydney vs. Melbourne debate is officially over.

Plunge into a white sea of 1.1 million plastic balls that will be making up an “ocean without sharks” at the Cutaway in Barangaroo.

This true blue Aussie experience has been reimagined by Snarkitecture, a New York-based art and architecture collaborative practice. And we all know how New Yorkers love their ball pits.

There are a number of options for how you experience the pit of glory. There are some ticketed sessions for those who want to skip the queue, as well as times where the pit is open to the general public and all-ages sessions available from 9am.  You’re also able experience The Beach at night by heading to an 18+ only sessions on Friday and Saturday evenings to really get your swim on.

Is it art, is it a game, is it both? Who cares? Dive in.

‘The Beach’ will run from January 7-29 as part of the Sydney Festival. While the event is entirely free, reservations are recommended and are available from 9am on Monday October 31.
