Sets On The Beach

The start of summer can only mean one thing: BEACH PARTIES! Get out your bikini bottoms and speedos and make a beeline down to the idyllic coastline of Port Beach in North Fremantle for the next Sets on the Beach event on December 11. Show off your best moves on the sandy dance floor while listening to the beats of stellar DJs and bands, providing the perfect backing track to the unsurpassable views of the sparkling Indian Ocean. There’s also a silent disco, for those who prefer to dance to the beat of their own drum.

WA’s First Licensed Beach

The day has finally come: WA has its first licensed stretch of beach, also believed to be the first in Australia. While WA isn’t left wanting for seaside restaurants, drinking has not been legally allowed on the beachfront – until now, that is. After months of negotiation, the eponymous Bathers Beach House has managed to secure an alcohol licence for Bathers Beach. What does this mean? Well, you can now sip your summertime cocktails and eat a meal while sprawled in your deckchair with the shimming waves of the ocean only metres away – undoubtedly the best seat in the house.

Lotterywest Festival Films

The atmospheric Lotterywest Festival Films outdoor cinema is back at the UWA Somerville and ECU Joondalup Pines, offering the best of world cinema in (quite possibly) the prettiest surrounds. The season one program has been released, delivering an eclectic range of films spanning across all corners of the globe and taking us into the worlds of all kinds of kooky and colourful characters. This is a night out under the stars that you’ll want to repeat week after week. The screening season runs until April.

Symphony In The City

symphony

The best things in life are free, and this old-age adage certainly applies to the City of Perth’s Symphony in the City. Join the masses of people flocking to Langley Park on December 10, all for the chance to be serenaded by the talented and brilliant West Australian Symphony Orchestra and the WASO Chorus, under the direction of Guy Noble. Did we mention that it’s free? Winning.

‘Parallels’ Exhibition

parr

Parallels‘ is a collaboration between acclaimed artists Amok Island and Jarrad Seng. If you haven’t heard of Amok Island, then you’ve surely inadvertently wandered past his street art strewn across the side of many of Perth’s buildings as well as being plastered across towering grain silos. Similarly, Jarrad Seng is a prolific creativity master, renowned for his striking photography and uncanny ability to capture moments in time – just check out his Instagram. This collaboration, which presents a new perspective on Rottnest Island, is sure to be a merging of two great minds – and knowing these artists, anything is possible. The exhibition is on at PSAS from December 9 to 22.

Streetbound

rosemount

The fun-tastic Southbound music festival is on at the end of December, but unfortunately not everyone has the time or funds to head down south for three days of camping fun. Life can be so unfair sometimes. Enter Streetbound at the Rosemount Hotel! Think of Streetbound as a little taster of the bands that will be playing at Southbound – with the likes of Koi Child and DJ Berryl Streep (Scarlett from San Cisco) spinning tunes in the backyard of the Rosemount – but at a fraction of the cost (we’re talking $5 here!). Streetbound takes place on December 4 from 1pm.

We don’t need to give you another reason to head to the supercool Urban Orchard in Perth’s Cultural Centre, but we’ll do so anyway: the New Year’s Eve by Bar Pop. What better way to ring in the New Year than to be surrounded by your sublime squad, phenomenal posse, groovy gang – whatever you want to call your nearest and dearest – listening to DJs spinning party-vibe sets, drinking celebratory cocktails and sampling delectable food from some of Perth’s most popular eateries, and with a fantastic view of Perth’s magnificent skyline no less. Happy 2017, everybody!
