Carriageworks Is Back Next Week In All Its Exhibition And Farmer’s Market Glory
If ever you want to feel cultured or full in Sydney, you simply take yourself on a trip to Carriageworks in Redfern — at least, you did before it went into voluntary administration for 10 weeks (yep, we can’t even blame this one on a global pandemic).
Well, ye olde Carriageworks has been saved, and will be back in action again as of next week.
Just last week it was announced that a multimillion-dollar lifeline (thrown by a group of philanthropists and NSW Government funding) would save the arts centre. Now they’ve already announced new dates for long-standing events — including the ever popular Saturday morning Farmer’s Market from August 8 — and even some brand new ones.

If you’re in it for the art, Carriageworks have announced eight exhibitions that are part of Nirin: 22nd Biennale of Sydney will be coming from Friday August 7 to Saturday September 26.
These exhibitions include a memorial to murdered women by Mexican artist Teresa Margolles, a video installation exploring the life of plants by Hannah Catherine Jones and a work by 14 artists from Iltja Ntjarra called Homeless in my homeland.

If that’s not enough, you can also check out Reko Rennie’s five-metre-long, five-metre-high installation named Remember Me. They’re also unveiling a brand new exhibition of artwork by Australian artist Giselle Stanborough, called Cinopticon. Apparently it’s actually been ready to go since March, it just never got unveiled.
Do you know what this means? Art and culture are back my friends! Socially distanced, I’m sure, but still, who wants people breathing down your neck while you absorb the artworks even before coronavirus became a thing?
The best part? It’s all free to view. Check them out from 10am to 5pm every Wednesday to Sunday starting from August 7.
