Sweden’s IceHotel Opens Its Doors For Another Winter
Looking for a way to beat the heat this summer? One sure-fire way is to spend a night in the coolest accommodation Europe has to offer, Sweden’s IceHotel.
Now in its 28th year, the world’s biggest ice hotel is once again open to the public.
Every year, when the 520km Torne River freezes over, more than 30,000 cubic metres ice is harvested and carved into a magnificent hotel in the small village of Jukkasjärvi.
So, how many people does it take to create an ice hotel? Well, it’s a collective and creative process. Last April, the hotel announced an open invite for proposals and designs for the project, and more than 36 artists from 17 different countries helped create the final product.
This year, three new rooms have been added to the hotel. And, in addition to that, the hotel has launched a selection of packages including Arctic yoga, Nordic skiing and workshops on how best to exercise in an Arctic climate.
For those keen on spending the night, there are 35 suites up for grabs, divided into a range of warm and cold deluxe rooms. Bookings start at a reasonable $220 ($1430SEK) per night and can be made via the website.
Just remember to pack your winter PJs.
