‘Star Wars’ Creator George Lucas Is Opening An Art Museum In LA

Star Wars creator George Lucas is opening an art museum in the heart of Los Angeles and it’s set to include the director’s personal collection of art and memorabilia.

If that’s not enough to make you cry with Star Wars-level excitement, the building’s gonna look like a spaceship too.

The force is strong with this one.

The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art will be built in Exposition Park in Los Angeles, with an opening date set for 2020. The sinuous new structure will contain close to 10,000 paintings, illustrations and other objects “dedicated to the art of visual storytelling and the evolution of art and moving images,” as the museum describes it.

Featuring a bold architectural design, this will be a one-of-a-kind gathering place to experience collections, films and exhibitions. The museum will showcase original work by world renowned and emerging artists, cutting-edge digital technologies, and daily film screenings. There will also be educational opportunities for all ages – no word yet on whether that means Jedi training.

Possibly the most anticipated part of the new project is the addition of George Lucas’ own personal collection of art and memorabilia which is built on his passion for collecting narrative art. The breadth of his collection includes traditional paintings by Edgar Degas and Pierre-Auguste Renoir, original works from Norman Rockwell and Maxfield Parrish, as well as an expansive art and cinema research library in both print and digital.
