Burgers Never Say Die in LA

Last year, chef Sean Nee started griddling patties out the back of his apartment complex in the ‘burbs of LA. His makeshift stand would open once a week for lunch on Sundays, when Nee would sell his double cheeseburgers on for just US$5 a pop. It was a true word-of-mouth affair — folks who wanted to go had to email ahead of time for the address and opening hours, then face lines of over two hours to get in.
It didn’t take long for word to spread. One high profile pop-up restaurant appearance and a few months later, Nee signed the lease on a bricks and mortar store in the hipper-than-thou LA suburb of Silver Lake. Burgers Never Say Die set to open in the fall of 2018 – which could be any day now.

Superiority Burger say that they’re not trying to recreate the taste of meat, but their patties taste remarkably like the real thing – an animal-friendly feat that’s won them a cult following in New York. The JE Burger At Josephine Estelle in New Orleans

Josephine Estelle doesn’t actually list the JE Burger on their regular dinner menu — it’s a room service item for the Ace Hotel upstairs — but ask for it and they will provide.
The beef patty here is wrapped in a crepe (New Orleans was a French settlement, after all), which comes filled with cheese topped with caramelised onion. It basically tastes like a gourmet Big Mac, which is a high compliment.

The Mikey Burger at One Bedford in Brooklyn
Just opposite McCarren Park in the coolest part of Brooklyn is One Bedford, a cosy bar and the site of one of the best burgers in America. There’s a few on the menu, but you’ll want to go for The Mikey — short rib beef, Swiss cheese, Bordelaise sauce and caramelised onions on a potato bun.

Lines stretch around the block for Hopdoddy, Austin’s favourite burger by a country mile.
The burger joint – which has four locations in the Texan capital of cool, as well as a smattering of stores in California, Tennessee, Colorado and Arizona – is giving the big burger chains a run for their money with fresh, expertly-prepared fast food.
