Get Ready For SBS’s Next Slow TV Masterpiece Set Inside A Cadbury Chocolate Factory

Scenes from the trailer of 'The Chocolate Factory: Inside Cadbury Australia', the new Slow TV show from SBS, premiering in April 2020.

Easter stops for no virus, but this year there’ll be a new way to get your chocolate fix while social distancing. In April, SBS is premiering a new Slow TV doco called The Chocolate Factory: Inside Cadbury Australia.

The three-hour documentary will show the chocolate-making process from beginning to end, starting in the sugarcane fields of Queensland and a dairy farm in Tasmania. But most of it will take place inside the Cadbury factories in Hobart and Melbourne.

Inside, we’ll see how millions of Easter eggs and chocolate bunnies are made. Expect gratuitous shots of melting, oozing and bubbling chocolate, with a healthy dose of mesmerising machinery doing its thing.

We’re already obsessed.

The Chocolate Factory: Inside Cadbury Australia is exactly the kind of content we need right now. For one, it’s all about chocolate, which is a no-brainer.

Secondly, it’s three hours long. That’s a three hour distraction from the current horrors of the world and from the housemates you’ve been trapped inside with for an eternity.

It’s the latest instalment in SBS’s Slow TV series, following the wildly successful doco The Ghan. In case you missed it, The Ghan let viewers watch for hours as a train slowly made its way from Adelaide to Darwin. It was so popular that SBS even released a 17-hour version.

Previous Slow TV docos have let viewers watch a ship cruise through the Kimberley and sail between New Zealand’s north and south islands.

The Chocolate Factory: Inside Cadbury Australia will air over the Easter long weekend, on SBS on Saturday, April 11 and Sunday, April 12 and VICELAND on April 12.

Watch the trailer here, and get the snacks prepared ASAP. You do not want to go into this without a stash of chocolate to devour for yourself, trust us.
