You Can Do This World-Famous Hike In The Company Of Rescue Dogs
Frequented by celebs and fitness buffs alike, Runyon Canyon is up there with the world’s most famous hikes thanks to its proximity to Hollywood. You can knock all the best bits over in the space of about an hour and take in panoramic views over west Los Angeles when you reach the top. It’s great.
But, like anything, Runyon Canyon could be vastly improved by the presence of one thing: dogs.
Animal welfare charity Free Animal Doctor and Airbnb know this, so they’ve teamed up to offer walking tours of the canyon where participants help to exercise rescue dogs from a nearby shelter or foster home.
Here’s how it works: Hikers are paired with their
new best friend rescue dog and spend a little bit of time bonding before they set off on the two-hour round-trip to Mullholland Drive and back again.
There’s no fixed price for participation – rather, guests are encouraged to make a donation towards the dogs’ care (around USD$50). Participants are encouraged to snap and share photos of the dogs on social media to generate interest from potential adopters.
The Runyon Canyon walking tours run twice weekly and can be booked through Airbnb Experiences. See you in the Hills.
