Qantas Just Made It A Whole Lot Easier To Skip Airport Queues

The journey between Australia and New Zealand just got even easier, with Qantas announcing mobile check-in and digital boarding passes for all Trans-Tasman travel.

The aim of the game is simple: to make the trip between countries an easy, seamless and queue-free experience. So basically, we can now finalise check-in and passport checks before we even get to the airport. And we all know what that means, right? Less time queueing and more time eating, drinking, shopping, and pretending we’re not reading trashy gossip mags. Amirite?

The best part? Qantas is even hinting at extending digital boarding passes across other routes on its global network, meaning easy, hassle-free international travel is getting closer by the day.

“Seamless domestic travel has been a reality since Qantas pioneered smart check-in technology in 2010,” said Qantas International and Freight CEO Gareth Evans.

“It’s a great example of how industry and Government working together can change what’s possible for travellers. The goal is ultimately to make this technology for international routes the ‘new normal’.”

Here’s the full low-down:

  • Mobile check-in and digital boarding passes are available to eligible customers flying across the Tasman
  • This includes all passport holders (some visa restrictions apply) on direct flights between Australia and New Zealand
  • The services are available on Qantas marketed and operated services and to those on single customer itineraries

Qantas has already rolled out the new technology on web and mobile browsing, and as of June, it’ll be available on the official Qantas app too.
