Princess Diana Is Getting Her Own Musical On Broadway

A Princess Diana Musical Is Coming To Broadway In 2020

While we wait for Princess Diana to make her debut in season 4 of The Crown, we can take comfort in the fact that a musical is hitting Broadway dedicated to the life of the princess.

The musical, simply titled Diana, actually premiered in early 2019 at the Mandell Weiss Theatre in California. After a year of rave reviews, Diana is finally making her way to Broadway in 2020.

The show focuses on Princess Diana’s life and her marriage to Prince Charles. It includes her separation from Charles, but not her tragic death — instead, it celebrates her status as a cultural phenomenon and explores how she rocked the British monarchy. And of course, it feature lots of the People’s Princess’ iconic outfits.

“To bring Diana to life onstage is obviously a huge privilege,” de Waal told Marie Claire. “I feel very daunted by the prospect, but I hope people who didn’t know about her and weren’t aware of her journey leave the theatre with an idea of what she did for the world. She made everyone feel special, from the highest person to the lowest-ranking person, and I think we want to celebrate her.”

The musical has an award-winning team behind it, including lyricists Joe DiPietro and David Bryan (Memphis), director Christopher Ashley (Come From Away), choreographer Kelly Devine and music supervisor Ian Eisendrath.

Diana is set to premiere on Broadway at the Longacre Theatre on March 2, with opening night set for March 31. You can buy tickets for the upcoming shows here.
