Praise A Giant Burger Sculpture At The World’s Only Big Mac Museum
Stop me if you’ve heard this one before: two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun. Yep, the ingredients for the McDonalds burger are ingrained in almost everyone’s memory, so it makes sense that this iconic sandwich should get its own museum, right? Right.
In August of 2007, the world was gifted The Big Mac Museum from the burger gods – this particular museum is a shrine to the iconic Macca’s menu item, which just so happened to be created up the road in Pennsylvania way back in 1967.
The museum, which functions out of regular McDonalds restaurant in Irwin, Pennsylvania, includes a timeline of the burger’s history from invention to production, various merchandise and packaging displays.
Oh, and there’s also a giant sculpture of it.
The massive Big Mac likeness measures 4.6 metres tall and 3.6 metres in diameter. It’s located in the play area of Irwin’s McDonalds and commemorates Pennsylvanian McDonalds owner Jim Deligatti, who dreamed up the sandwich almost 50-years-ago.
The museum claims the iconic Big Mac is the world’s most popular sandwich, seeing as The Economist Magazine annually publishes ‘The Big Mac Index’ to contrast the value of foreign currencies against the U.S. dollar. So you know, it’s kind of a big deal.
