One Of The World’s Creepiest Hotels Is Up For Sale
Can't sleep, clown will eat me.
If you consider yourself an up-and-comer in the hospitality game, you might want to contemplate this stellar investment: The USA’s notorious Clown Motel is up for sale.
Located in the town of Tonopah, Nevada, the modest hotel is pet-friendly and boasts possibly more clowns than there are people in the entire town. And, now, it’s been listed for sale at the very reasonable asking price of $1.1million ($900,000USD).
Owner Bob Perchetti opened the perculiar lodgings over two decades ago and says there’s only one condition potential buyers must abide by: the clowns stay.
“I love clowns, I’ve never had a problem with clowns,” Perchetti told Las Vegas Now (ya don’t say, Bob).
And while he’s happy for upgrades to be made, Perchetti – who’s lived in Tonopah his entire life – will be back to check the motel’s longest-serving residents are still where they belong.
“I’m going to come back. I’m going to come back and visit my clowns.”
Situated at the junction of highway routs 6 and 95 between Las Vegas and Reno, the motel is a popular spot for tourists to stop, even if they’re not checking in, thanks to its, er, unique décor.
The lobby is filled with literally hundreds of figurines of all shapes and sizes, while the 31 rooms (a bargain at just $54, or $42.50USD, per night) are adorned with clown-themed murals and paintings. In some rooms, they dangle over the beds.
Adding to its particular charm is the fact that it’s right next door to a century-old miner’s cemetary.
Around an hour’s drive down the road is the Lunar Crater National Natural Landmark, a big hole in the ground created by eruptions close to ground level. It’s considered a pleasant camp ground for anyone looking to escape the dozens of beady clown eyes watching them as they sleep.
