Nerds Rejoice! A Replica ‘Star Wars’ Cantina Bar Has Finally Opened
Free drinks for Jedi?
This is really turning out to be a banner year for Star Wars fans – first there’s the upcoming highly anticipated release of Star Wars VII: A Force Awakens, which will finally answer all the questions we have about where our fave Jedi have been up to all these years, and now some geniuses have opened a real life Mos Eisley Cantina Bar in Ottawa. Finally.
Ben Kenobi famously said that the Mos Eisley Cantina is a “wretched hive of scum and villany,” so we’re hoping this pop-up bar will be a little more friendly to its guests. The Cantina, which is located in the suburb of Orléans in Ottawa, opened its doors to Star Wars superfans last weekend and promises to be a place where fans can “come to play board games, watch movies, and talk Star Wars.”
The Cantina bar is a pretty iconic part of the Star Wars universe – it’s where we first meet Han Solo and Chewbacca and the controversial “Han shot first” confrontation with Greedo occurs. The Ottawa bar has tried to replicate the rough haunt with a brown tinge to the walls and Star Wars themed drinks on tap. You can order a Bantha Milk, which is an authentic drink they served at the Cantina, as well as a mysterious green drink labelled The Yoda.
The one thing that’s missing? The Cantina Band! But it’s okay, the hairless aliens from Figrin D’an and the Modal Nodes will live on – we can only assume their famous song is played repeatedly over the sound system. Grab a bevvie, start debating the series’ true viewing order and then hop over to the gaming store next door, which is fittingly called The Kessel Run.
This #onpoint replica bar proves that Canada has really lifted its pop culture game in recent months – a Harry Potter themed bar opened in Toronto last month which successfully fed into the need for a ‘Kingsley Shacklebolt’ inspired beverage. Here’s hoping The Cantina bar in Ottawa does the same to eager Star Wars fans.
