5 Natural Hot Springs In Queensland That Look As Good As They’ll Feel

Hot Springs on Ewamian Country

Not to sound too floofy, but there is a special kind of energy around natural hot springs. It’s like the water has been heated by the Earth to give you a big old hug, so you can truly get cosy and relax. They’re also usually very pretty too, which doesn’t hurt.

One place I don’t really think of, though, when I think of hot springs, is Queensland. The Great Barrier Reef and ancient rainforest, sure. But not hot springs.

This is where I, and probably you, were wrong. They actually have quite a few, and they tend to be little epicentres of rejuvenation and wellness. Read on below for 5 natural hot springs in Queensland to enjoy.

#1 Talaroo Hot Springs, Savannah Way

From May 2021, you can head out on the Savannah Way to Queensland’s Gulf Country to visit Talaroo Hot Springs on a former cattle station. There’ll be private soaking pools, a new boardwalk to view the springs, a caravan park and campground, an onsite cafe and tours led by the Ewamian Traditional Owners.

These 65-million-year-old hot springs are of only two mound springs in Australia. They’re fed by water that travels for 20,000 years after falling in the neighbouring Newcastle Ranges, hitting about 53-63 degrees Celsius by the time they hit the springs. Don’t worry though, the main pool stays at a more comfortable  35 degrees Celsius year-round.

#2 Innot Hot Springs, Atherton Tablelands

The geo-thermal Innot Hot Springs have long been a popular Cairns Hinterland stop — especially if you’re out there to see the Undara Lava Tubes anyway.

Halfway between Ravenshoe and Mount Garnet, an entry fee gains you access to six temperature-controlled thermal pools at Innot Hot Springs Leisure and Health Park. Or you can take the free option and wade into the shallow creek nearby.

#3 Eulo Mud Baths, Eulo

Closer to the middle of the Queensland/ NSW border, artesian water oozes to the surface as an oozy mud that’s high in silica, magnesium, iron, zinc and other minerals to make your skin glow.

Eulo Mud Baths turn this muddy water into one hell of a natural private spa bath that you can enjoy wine in hand, on your own or with two to one bath.

#4 Julia Creek Outdoor Baths, McKinlay Shire

You don’t really think luxury when you book a stay at a caravan park, but Julia Creek Caravan Park & Outdoor Baths really step it up.

With six pairs of baths that caravan park guests can use for free, you can sip champers and chow down on cheese as you relax in this naturally warm water feed by the Great Artesian Basin — which is one of the largest Artesian freshwater basins in the world.

#5 Bedourie Artesian Spa and Aquatic Centre, Bedourie

There are plenty of reasons to head out to Birdsville in Central Queensland: The Big Red Bash music festival, the 40-metre-high ‘Big Red’ sand dune that signals the start of the Simpson Desert.

Add to that the fact a 30-minute drive to Bedourie Artesian Spa will see you soaking in a 22-person therapeutic spa that’s fed by Bedourie’s Artesian Bore.
