Museum MACAN Is Indonesia’s First Modern Art Museum

A place of incredible natural beauty, Indonesia has no shortage of incredible opportunities for sightseeing. Now, the island nation’s first modern art museum has been thrown into the mix.

The museum opened late in 2017 with a debut exhibition featuring works from renowned international artists like Jeff Koons and Andy Warhol, and the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Nusantara (Museum MACAN) aims to highlight local artists who receive comparably less international attention.

The next major exhibitions are On Kawara: One Million Years, kicking off on November 18, and Lee Mingwei’s Seven Stories – both major showings from renowned Asian artists. Also upcoming are art workshops including Pumpkin Playdough, Seeds Mosaic and Participatory Origami.
