A New Fermented Food Festival Is Coming To Mudgee, So Load Up On Pickles And Beer

It’s no secret that Mudgee is a hub for delicious wine and food to match. It’s also not a secret that a lot of people have a weird obsession with pickles, and just things ferment in general (ahem, sour dough, ahem). So the fact this new food festival is joining all those things together just makes sense.

Fermenta Festival is hitting Mudgee in March 13. As the name suggests, it’ll be celebrating all things that ferment — like kombucha making, beer brewing, sourdough bread, chocolate and even traditional Sauerkraut demos.

There’ll be a line up of different events, including entertainment, educational and how-to workshops throughout the day. The festival will end with a Twilight Picnic on the Cudgegong River.

“What started as a simple idea has been brought to life with an exciting line-up of events and activity, and we can’t wait to see locals and visitors feel the love in both Kandos and Rylstone, two of the charming villages that make up the Mudgee Region,” said Mudgee Region Tourism CEO Cara George in a statement.

As for signature events, you can expect things like breakfast with an alpaca, Wild Stories Foraging Guide, a kombucha demonstration, brewing workshops, how to make honey ginger beer, sourdough crumpet making and chocolate fermentation classes.

There’ll also be a diverse line-up of performances to keep you entertained while you stuff your gullet.

You can book your tickets now from the website, and find out more deets while you’re there.

As for what else you should do while you’re in Mudgee (the festival is only for one day after all, so may as well use the whole weekend if you ask me), then this guide should sort you out.

I mean, Mudgee was named in the top 10 emerging destinations for 2021 by TripAdvisor, so you’d be mad not to go.
