‘Mrs. Doubtfire’ The Musical Is Coming To Broadway In 2020
The iconic Robin Williams film is finally getting the cultural renaissance it’s always deserved since its 1993 release — Mrs. Doubtfire the Musical is coming to Broadway in 2020.
In case you need a refresher, or weren’t obsessed with this film growing up, Mrs. Doubtfire follows Daniel, played by the late, great Robin Williams, an out-of-work actor who hatches an elaborate plan to spend more time with his kids after a nasty divorce. His plan is simple: he’ll just dress up as a woman, put on a Scottish accent, and get hired by his ex-wife as their children’s new nanny.

The Tony nominated actor Rob McClure will take on the seemingly impossible task of bringing one of Williams’ most well-known roles to Broadway. The musical will be directed by Tony Award-winner Kevin McCollum, who also did Rent.
While the film wasn’t a musical, the Broadway production will feature a new score written by Wayne Kirkpatrick and Karey Kirkpatrick, and costumes by Catherine Zuber, the woman behind the glitz, glamour and absolute majesty of the Moulin Rouge costumes.
[related_articles]76554,51438,68867[/related_articles]The complete cast hasn’t been announced yet, but the musical will feature all kinds of Broadway icons like Jenn Gambatese as Miranda Hillard (played by Sally Field in the movie), Brad Oscar, Analise Scarpaci, Jake Ryan Flynn and Mark Evans as Stuart Dunmeyer (Pierce Brosnan’s smouldering movie role).
The official opening night of Mrs. Doubtfire the Musical will be April 5, 2020 at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre. Tickets go on sale to the general public on Friday, November 1, and you’ll be able to buy them here.
Here’s hoping it follows the path of Hamilton and Moulin Rouge, and skip on down to Oz after a wildly successful run on Broadway.
