This Pop-Up Restaurant On Mount Everest Has Turned Dinner Into An Extreme Sport

Regular old restaurants safely planted on the earth’s surface are so two-thousand-and-late. If you’re looking for a truly unique dining experience with a side of sheer terror, this new pop-up on Mount Everest is just the ticket.

The project – dubbed Triyagyoni – is the brainchild of a group of chefs hoping to set a new world record for the highest ever pop-up restaurant. And where better to set up shop than on earth’s highest mountain?

The seven-course dinner will be served at an incredible 3500m above sea level, at Everest Base Camp (about one third of the way up the mountain). Four chefs and 10 diners will take an eight-day trek up the famous mountain, starting at Lukla, Nepal, later this month, foraging for ingredients along the way.

“The biggest challenge of course will be the altitude, which will affect everything,” Sanjay Thakur, one of the four chefs behind the pop-up told Fine Dining Lovers. “Flavour will be decreased, so we will be designing a menu of extraordinary dishes accordingly, where spices will have the upper hand.”

Best of all, Triyagyoni is designed to raise awareness of sustainability issues. Thakur says the experience – furniture included – is designed to leave nothing behind on Mount Everest, and all money raised will go to local charities.

Up for the challenge? Understandably, it’s not for the faint hearted and tickets are $7500 (5600UD). But this includes flights, accommodation and meals.
