This Map Shows The Most Popular Fast Food Chains In Each Country

Much like visiting popular tourist attractions, travel snobs tend to frown upon people who stop in for fast food on their international travels. Well, it’s 2021 and I think we can agree travel snobs can calm down now.

I don’t even eat meat, and it still gives me a moment of amusement to see the Macca’s ‘special’ in each country — normally the national delicacy, but worse. Like in Prague, where I basically lived on crumbed and deep-fried cheese for three months, which McDonald’s turned into a literal cheeseburger. It was both gross and delicious.

Plus sometimes, especially when you’ve been on the road for a long time, you just want an easy and predictable food option before you go back to exploring.

I think it’s just ok to eat fast food overseas sometimes. Especially as people around the world get in on the fast food action in their own towns.

This map, put together by finance and lending research site BusinessFinancing, uses Google Keyword Planner to find the most searched for fast food chains in each country.

Clearly, I’m not the only one intrigued to see the local specials because McDonald’s truly is the king of this world, being the top search in 75 countries. You’ve got to hand it to them, their marketing is on point. Surprisingly, though, America was not one of those countries.

The USA is one of those countries that make it feel like eating fast food IS the experience though, and they have a lot of options to choose from. Apparently, it’s truly Pizza Hut that captures the tastebuds of Americans though. For some reason.

KFC isn’t far behind though, topping the searches in 65 countries, then Pizza Hut came in at 28. This still baffles me, especially now they’re not even cheap — but ok, I guess not everyone has a wood-fired option.

In news that surprises no one, Canadians are all about the Tim Hortons. Grabbing a cheap coffee from this chain is actually a national pastime over there, and if someone brings the TimBits doughnut holes? Forget about it.

Australia was all about the Domino’s, for which my above Pizza Hut Comment stands. Let’s just hope they’re searching for one of the many vouchers that make the pizza’s like, $5 — and then change their minds and order something better. Mexico and India are all about Domino’s too.

So there you have it. Who else is craving a Macca’s run now?
