Sydney’s Getting A Festival Dedicated Solely To Delicious Momos

What is a “momo”? I’m glad you asked. If you’ve had a dumpling, you’ve had something similar to a momo. Momos are common in India, Nepal and Tibet. And a MoMo Fest Sydney is coming so we can celebrate and eat them.

MoMo Fest Sydney will fill the city with tasty morsels on Saturday 18 April, and the organisers are putting out the call for anyone who’s a fan of dumplings to mark the day in their calendar.

The festival has already had three successful years in Melbourne, each year apparently bringing thousands of attendees to feast on delicious momos. With more than 30 varieties of the treat coming to the festival, you can expect momos with fillings such as chicken, lamb, goat, pork or buffalo, cottage cheese, cabbage, beans, potatoes, as well as spices and herbs to bring it all together.

Momos are an under-appreciated part of South Asian cuisine, often overlooked in favour of their flashier cousins from China and Japan. But anyone who’s eaten at popular restaurant Little Momo on King Street in Newtown knows these little parcels are truly worth their calories.

To drum up some hype about the delicious foods on offer on the day, there will also be live music from local and international bands, DJs, multicultural performances, roving performers, entertainment for kids, workshops and even momo competitions.
