Day one in Miami

Arrival: Bienvenidos a Miami

Fly into Miami International Airport and jump into an Uber. If you don’t have much time in Miami, you might as well stay in a nice place. Miami isn’t exactly budget friendly, but you’ll be too busy having fun to care. Check into The Confidante Miami Beach located in Miami’s art district. It has major retro-glam vibes, an Instagram-worthy pool and private beach access. Win!

Morning: Refuel and check out some art

You’re probably exhausted from the flight. Head to Wynwood Art District, where you’ll find an exotically colourful scene that will wake you up. We’re talking huge walls painted with murals and street art painted artists all over the world. While you’re walking around the neighbourhood, pop into Miam (meaning ‘yum’ in French) for coffee. You can’t miss this awkwardly shaped and painted building.

Afternoon: Do something crazy

Being in Miami gives you an energy you didn’t know you had. Use that energy and go jet skiing in Biscayne Bay. It (surprisingly) won’t break the bank. Jet Boat Miami offers packages where you can jet ski for an hour, then do 30 minutes of flyboarding for under US$100 (AU$142). Contact them to set something up!

Afterwards, hop in one of Miami’s luxury pools to cool off and relax. The Fontainebleau offers day passes to its 11 — yes, ELEVEN — pools. If you go on a weekend and you’re over 21, you’ll have access to its infamous Arkadia Day Club pool, which hosts some epic parties. Pssst: this is the kind of place where you’ll spot a celebrity.

Night: Sip on giant cocktails

Dress in your best and head to Lincoln Road Mall for dinner and window shopping (or real shopping!). This street has heaps of food options — it would be wrong to suggest just one. For Italian try Spris for authentic pies.

In the mood for sushi? Sushisamba is always a good idea. Mexican food more your flavour? Huahua’s will supply chips and guac. End the night sipping GIANT mojitos and other cocktails at Pitbull’s new restaurant and nightclub, iLov305. Or don’t end it…

Wake up at a decent hour and take advantage of a full day in Miami. Grab a volleyball and head to the courts at 8th and Ocean Drive. Tournaments happen regularly, and it’s a great way to make a few mates. If you want to start your morning with something more peaceful, head over to 3rd Street Beach Yoga. You can warrior one on the beach during sunrise, and pay what you think is fair.

Afternoon: Have a Cuban feast

If you get hungry on Ocean Drive after morning activities, head to Havanna 1957 for an authentic Cuban lunch. You have to try an EPIC Cuban sanga. This panini type of hot sandwich is made with ham, roast pork, Swiss cheese, pickles, and slathered with mustard. We’ll give you a minute to wipe off the drool.

Walk it off by checking out the Versace Mansion. It’s high on many people’s list of what to do in Miami. It’s located in Miami’s art district, where you’ll find quirky art deco inspired buildings. Art deco design represented modernism in the 1920s. There are hundreds of buildings with this colourful and streamlined look.

Night: Commit to a night out

Put your party pants on and have a night out — you’re on vacation! There are so many ways to experience Miami’s infamous nightlife. Check out LIV for a bougie club experience, or walk up to the rooftop at E11EVEN for an open-air kind of night. These spots usually host big name DJs or rappers for music, so you know it will be bumpin’.

If you’re not feeling the club scene, that’s no drama. Ask the taxi driver to take you to Mary Brickell Village. You’ll find a bunch of shops, restaurants, and bars with more of a down to earth vibe. Learn a little salsa at BARU Latin bar then take your new dance skills home with you to end a wild 48 hours in Miami.
