Messina Just Dropped A Drool-Worthy OTT Christmas Trifle

Messina's Christmas Coma Trifle Is The OTT Dessert Of Your Dreams

Normally we’d argue that Christmas decorations shouldn’t come out until December 1, but when it’s Messina announcing the return of their OTT dessert, The Christmas Coma, we say bury us in the early holiday cheer.

The Christmas Coma is returning for its third year, and this time around it’s swapping out the decadent layers of chocolate (stay with me here) for a monster of a creation stuffed full of fresh fruit and cream.

So what’s actually in this bad boy? Passionfruit mousse, mango sorbet and coconut chiboust (like a lightly whipped coconut cream) are slathered on top of each other, with a macadamia crunch and mango-soaked sponge layered in between. There’s even a guava flummery (I don’t even know her!) which is apparently a bit like a whipped jelly. The whole thing is topped with a chocolate coconut for extra good measure.

Personally, we’re a pavlova family come Christmas day, but I’d be willing to chuck out my mum’s homemade pav for this trifle. Sorry Mum but like, look at this thing.

If you’re worried that there isn’t enough booze here, have no fear! The Christmas Coma comes with a bottle of Messina rum custard for you to pour on top. Or just drink it straight from a bowl, no judgements here.

You’ll also get to keep the custom Messina-branded trifle bowl and cooler bag your dessert comes in. They’ll also throw in a batch of Christmas crackers with special prizes in them, like free gelato scoops and a year’s supply of Messina.

You can pre-order the Christmas Coma for $170 from October 29, or a day early if you sign up here. Don’t let the price tag put you off — the trifle serves 20 to 30 people. Or fewer if you’re committed.
