Three Adorable Meerkat Pups Have Popped Up At Canberra’s National Zoo

Meerkats National Zoo

‘Tis the season for adorable baby animals and, just a month after an impossibly cute litter of meerkat pups made their debut at Adelaide Zoo, folks over at Canberra’s National Zoo and Aquarium have revealed they’re celebrating a cuddly arrival of their own.

Weighing just 150g each, the tiny slender-tailed meerkat triplets were born to mum, Sekai, and dad, Sergei, on August 21, making them the first pups ever to go on display at the zoo. They’ve been hanging out in the family burrow in the weeks since they were born.

“We’re so excited to have three meerkat pups here at the zoo,” National Zoo Operations Manager Renee Osterloh said in a statement.

“It’s wonderful to watch them explore their new surroundings and they’re always learning from their mum, dad and older siblings.”

Given they’re a reasonably recent addition to the zoo’s meerkat family, the little tackers don’t have names yet. They’ll be named in the coming weeks, when keepers have been able to determine their gender. (Cutie McCuteface, anyone?)
