The Irish Coast Made Famous By ‘Star Wars’ Is Throwing A May The 4th Festival

When it comes to the social calendar of die-hard Star Wars fans, there’s one day that reigns supreme. One day that warrants a complete and total nerd-out. That day is May the 4th.

Turns out the one thing Star Wars fans love more than a good pun is an excuse to cosplay and hang out with other fans of the epic movie franchise. And, if you’re searching for the best place to celebrate this year, look no further than the centre of the Star Wars universe, County Kerry in southwest Ireland. Residents here are throwing a three-day “May the Fourth Be With You” festival.

The beautiful County Kerry coast is one of the Irish locations featured in the two most recent star wars films: The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi – most notably Skellig Islands, just off the region’s coast.

During the May the Fourth Be With You festival , fantasy fans will gather in the villages of Ballyferriter – where five extra-planetary beehive huts took over the Ceann Sibéal headland for the movies – Ballinskelligs, and Portmagee on Valentia Island, where the cast and crew were based, to celebrate all things Star Wars.

During the festival fans will be treated to guided walking tours of the most iconic filming locations, beehive hut VR experiences, traditional Irish dancing, outdoor drive-in screenings of The Last Jedi and even day trips out to explore Skellig Islands. Chuck a sickie next Friday, you will.
