4 Fabulous Ways To Spend Your Sydney Mardi Gras

This year marks the 40th anniversary of The Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, with the theme “40 Years of Evolution” reflecting on LGBTIQ+ history, and we’re so excited that we just can’t hide it.

But if you’ve left your Mardi Gras plans to the last minute, rest assured, it’s not too late! Bust out your glitter paint, fashion yourself a fabulous outfit, and find your way to these fabulous Mardi Gras additions.

#1 Mardi Gras Parade

Arguably the biggest and best part of Mardi Gras celebrations is the parade.

A sparkling procession of more than 200 groups and stunning floats will sashay from Moore Park to Hyde Park, showcasing the beauty and flavour of the LGBTIQ+ family. Expect a plethora of glamazon-esque drag queens, talented queer performers, LGBTIQ+ allies from all walks of life coming together to celebrate one thing: love.

When: Saturday, March 3, from 7pm to 11pm

Where: Oxford and Flinders Streets, Sydney


#2 Drag Brunch

The best way to shake a Mardi Gras hangover? Drag Brunch, of course!

It all kicks off at 11am with a game of drag bingo. You get to watch and play while sipping bottomless cocktails and munching on a smorgasbord of brekkie delights.

There are also lunch and dinner sittings available, should you wish to enjoy a cheeky sleep-in. Tickets start at $50 and can be purchased online.

#3 Sandy Bottoms “Disco On The Green”

Did you really think a party this big was going to finish up after Saturday night?

Kick on to Marrickville Bowling Club on Sunday and join local drag superstar Sandy Bottom and a line-up of local and interstate drag and transgender illusionist entertainers for a day of barefoot bowls, drag shows and DJ sets.

Expect fabulous food and only the campest playlists. There’s something for every age and every gay in disco heaven.

When: Sunday, March 4, from 1pm to 12am

#4 Gay And Lesbian Puppy Love Speed Dating

When it all wraps up on Sunday, you might feel down, but don’t! Next weekend, Dear Pluto will team up with the Newtown Hotel and Rocky’s K9 Rescue to bring you a gay afternoon of dates and doggos!

You can expect to go on 15 to 20 dates, with beer and burger breaks between. It’s a BYOD (bring your own dog) event, but if you’re dog-less, there will be some foster pups on hand to play temporary wingman.

The event is for gay, lesbian and bi peeps aged between 20 and 35 years. Tickets are $20, plus a booking fee, and can be purchased online. All proceeds will go to Rocky’s K9 Rescue.
