Lonely Planet Have Named Their Top Countries To Travel To In 2016

2015 is almost over – crazy, right? – so it’s time to start thinking about your fantasy travel destinations for next year. Luckily, travel bible Lonely Planet have done the hard yards for us and compiled a list of their Best In Travel for 2016, a.k.a. your guide for the hottest destinations for the new year.

Not one for going down a well beaten track, Lonely Planet‘s expert travel correspondents have included a mix of the expected must-visit countries spliced in with a few hidden gems.

The travel site has named none other than Botswana, the alluring and progressive land-locked country in Africa’s south, the number one country to visit in 2016. Lonely Planet speaks of the country’s journey towards a thriving society with a balanced economic growth that doesn’t hinder its natural riches – which are, quite frankly, are some of the best in the world.

Good old Australia made it to the number six spot on the esteemed list, with Lonely Planet noting the state of our declining “dollarydoos” maning an influx of travellers as our Great Southern Land becomes less expensive. The travel experts reckon 2016 is the perfect time for an Aussie road trip – take in our natural wonders like the Great Barrier Reef and Tassie’s pristine forests before Mother Nature (or logging) takes them away from us.
