Live Out Your Round The Twist Dreams At This Lighthouse Hostel

Have you ever… ever felt like this a huge Round The Twist fan? You’re not alone. We’ll always remember the absurd stories (Linda and Pete drowning in seagull poo always sticks with me) and that iconic theme song about the mischievous Twist family and their haunted lighthouse. While staying overnight at the Twist’s lighthouse might not be a possibility, we’ll happily settle for something a little different on America’s west coast. Say hello to Pigeon Point Lighthouse – a youth hostel with a twist.

Located an hour south of San Francisco, the Pigeon Point Lighthouse was built back in 1871 and still functions as a coast guard today, guiding ships approaching San Fran bay from the south. The lighthouse keeper’s house, found at the base of the building, has been functioning as a youth hostel since the early 1960s.

There are four three-bedroom houses right beside the lighthouse – each of the lodgings comes with access to cosy indoor lounges, full-equipped kitchens as well as the local cove beaches and tide pools.

Best of all there’s even a hot tub you can rent out after-hours. Did someone say midnight swim?

The lighthouse is also a great spot for whale watching, so keep your eyes peeled for some movement across the bay as you soak away your troubles.
