A Pop-Up Tropical Beach Is Coming To Sydney Harbour To Warm Our Chilly Winter Days

It may be winter, but Sydney‘s getting a taste of the summer beach life. A pop-up tropical beach is taking over Circular Quay, to remind us of the good times when beach days were still a viable option.

As part of Bastille Festival, the city’s annual French-inspired celebration, the Kanak Beach Village is bringing the sand, beach chairs, palm trees and tropical cocktails of New Caledonia to the quay, between the ferry terminal and the Opera House.

If you like the sound of a tropical escape in the freezing cold city, then boy do I have spicy deets for you! The pop-up beach will be supplying everything you need for a summer fun day, so all you have to worry about is turning up, picking out your coconut cocktail and deciding what kind of sand castle to make.

There’ll be BBQ prawns, pineapple skewers and roasted pork to nibble on while you lounge, and selection of French wines and rosé and special ice cream flavours from Gelato Messina.

The two Messina flavours are inspired by the mix of French and tropical flavours of New Caledonia, and will be $12 each. The Mother Puffer is a puff pastry vol-au-vent topped with vanilla gelato and caramelised pineapple, and the Crème of the Crop features a coconut crème brûlée with added coconut and passionfruit gelato. Yum!

If you get tired of lounging, there’s a game of coconut pétanque (a coconut-themed version of the French game kinda like lawn bowls) with your name on it, and fire twirlers to cheer on.

And the best bit – there’s a treasure chest hidden somewhere around Circular Quay and the Rocks just waiting to be unlocked. Follow a treasure map to five locations and try to complete the challenge in each spot. There’s only one chest, and once it’s unlocked that’s game over, so gather your best crew for a chance to win what’s inside.

Bastille Festival and the Kanak Beach Village will be in Circular Quay from July 11 to 14. Check the website for opening times and more details about everything that’s on offer.
