Japan Is Getting Not One, But Two Mayonnaise Restaurants

Japan doesn’t joke around when it comes to mayonnaise. Tokyo already has an actual museum detailing the creation and distribution of their beloved creamy condiment, which is about as serious as you can get.

And now, they’re opening up not one, but two restaurants dedicated solely to mayonnaise. Kewpie, the first and most famous mayonnaise company in Japan, is opening two pop up restaurants dedicated to the spread this week. The opening of the Shibuya, Tokyo restaurant coincided with the country’s Official Mayonnaise Day on March 1 (see? Very serious) and will be staying open until the end of the month.

You can find the other mayonnaise cafe in Nagoya, central Honshu from April 1 until the end of the month. That means theres two full months of the finest in mayonnaise dining to take advantage of.

The Kewpie Mayonnaise Cafe menu includes items like tempura with mayonnaise dipping sauce, mayonnaise chicken bake and mayonnaise prawn pasta. As the website says, “The food will be more fun with mayonnaise!” We wholeheartedly agree.
