Italy Has Been Named The Healthiest Country In The World
You heard right. The country that gave us the holy trio of pizza, pasta and gelato has been dubbed the healthiest in the world. Which begs the question: if Italians are healthy, are their signature foods healthy too?
Unfortunately, no. It just means Italians are better at eating them in moderation. Along with a balanced diet of vegetables, fruit and healthy doses of olive oil.
The Bloomberg Global Health Index is based on life expectancy, causes of death, health risks and access to clean drinking water. The results have shown that out of 163 countries surveyed, Italy comes out on top with a life expectancy of over 80 years old and a high level of general health. Bloomberg attributes this to Italy’s higher than average level of doctors and medical staff as well as easy access to good, lean foods like fish and vegetables.
Other countries that rounded out the top five include Iceland, Switzerland, Singapore and Australia, three of which also scored in the top 10 happiest countries in the world. What a good week for us Aussies!
