You Can Order Your Next Meal Through Instagram Now, Because Why Not

I don’t know about you, but I never order from a new restaurant unless I’ve checked out their Instagram page first. How am I supposed to accurately judge the potential taste if I haven’t seen photos of their dishes with perfect lighting and pleasing presentations?

Exactly, it’s impossible.

This leads to multiple tabs open and shuffling back and forth from Instagram page to webpage as I work out what to eat, which is not that big a deal but it’s still definitely a THING.

Well since today, Instagram has cut out the extra work and will allow you to order from your fave restaurants and cafes directly from the social media app.

Business accounts can utilise an ‘Order Food’ button on their profile, and add to their Instagram Stories. All we hungry stans need to do is then click on it to be taken to the food order platform to complete the purchase. At the moment, those food ordering platforms include Uber Eats, Deliveroo, and Door Dash.

It’ll look a little something like this:

“For many small businesses right now, we know that every sale helps,” explains Kaylie Smith, Head of Market Operations, Instagram APAC.

“We want to do our part in helping them stay open, keep in touch with customers, and stay informed on how to navigate this crisis. These new tools make it easier for people to share fundraisers and make delivery food orders from small businesses on Instagram.”

On that note, Instagram are also introducing a way for small businesses to more easily share their fundraisers. When a ‘Personal Fundraiser’ is set up via Facebook, businesses will then be able to share it to their Instagram stories, as well as being able to activate a ‘Donate’ button on their Instagram profiles.

TL;DR: You can order food from and donate to small local businesses as you scroll through Instagram from today.

Several cafes and restaurants have already signed on around Australia, including local Redfern favourite, Kepos Street Kitchen. They’ll be serving up their modern Middle Eastern dishes with a little Mediterranean twist to make your dinners way more exciting than those loaves of bread you keep baking.
