Lonely Travellers Can Rent A Fish To Keep Them Company At This Hotel
Hi, I'm Dory!
Travelling solo can be lonely at times. But, at The Hotel Chaleroi Airport in Gosselies, Belgium, finding company is easier than you may think — guests can loan a goldfish companion for the night.
Sure, they’re not all that chatty , but they sure are good listeners. Besides, if you happen to make any grand confessions, your secrets are safe – it’s not like they’ll remember.
Hotel manager David Dillen told The Independent that the gilled staff members have been quite popular among guests for the past few years.
“We started a few years ago. The idea was to surprise our guests, as we always try to do,” Dillen said. “It’s brilliant to see how people react to it. They smile and take pictures to put [them] on social media. We rent a few fish per week.”
The fish are well looked after, living it up in their bowls, with most having lived at the hotel for more than four years now. When they’re not hanging out with guests, the fish spend their time in a much larger tank, which is well oxygenated and kitted-out with shelter and plants.
Each fishbowl has a name-tag attached so you’ll never forget the name of your new bubble-blowing bestie.
If you’re ready to spend some quality time with Suzanne the goldfish, you can for just $5 (€3.50) per night.
