The World’s First Michelin-Starred Hawker Stall Is Headed For Melbourne

When you think of Michelin-Starred eateries, you probably picture fine dining, waiters in tuxedos and expensive silverware – not $2 serves of soy sauce chicken served on the street.

Hawker Chan is the first ever hawker stall to receive a coveted star in Singapore’s Michelin Guide. Now, restaurateur and owner Chan Hon Meng is gearing up to expand his sticky chicken empire with a new Melbourne venue, which is set to open next month.

The new restaurant will seat 92 people, but won’t offer table service or reservations due to high demand. The crowds are expected to mirror those of Hawker Chan’s Singaporean venue, which sees enormous lines queue around the block, so we recommend getting in early to ensure you get your chicken fix.

Vinceny Chua, Hawker Chan’s operations manager, says it’s Mr Chan’s secret sauce that gives his chicken its signature punch.

If you’re hungry for more, there are just four other choices available: wonton soup, seasonal veggies, Thai-style tofu, and a soya bean-sprouts dish.
