‘Harry Potter And The Cursed Child’ Is Headed For Melbourne!

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

Leaping lizards! Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has this morning announced J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter and the Cursed Child will make its Australian debut in Melbourne in 2019.

This. Is. Not. A. Drill.

Andrews travelled to Times Square in New York — where the two-part play will make its debut in April 2018 following a sold-out run on London’s West End – to make the announcement, wearing a Gryffindor scarf like the giant Harry Potter nerd he so obviously is.

Based on the original story by Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany, the show will have an exclusive run at Melbourne’s Princess Theatre in early 2019.

Tiffany will travel to Australia in 2018 to begin casting, so if you never got that letter to Hogwarts, now’s your chance. Rowling, who’s never been to our humble homeland, says she could be convinced to make the trip.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is the eighth story in the Harry Potter series and tells the story of Harry’s fraught relationship with his son, Albus. It’s the most-awarded production in the history of the UK’s Olivier Awards, earning 22 major theatre awards since it opened in 2016.
