The 5 Most Instagrammable Spots On (And Around) Hamilton Island
Opportunities for the perfect snap are everywhere.
When we think of the ultimate island getaway, one location springs to mind: Hamilton Island. Part of the Whitsunday Islands, it’s just a stone’s throw from the Great Barrier Reef and has loads to offer, from sun and crystal-clear water, to local wildlife and picturesque landscapes.
No matter how you choose to spend your time, one thing’s for sure: opportunities for the perfect Insta snap are all around. If you’re not sure where to start, we’ve got you covered.
#1 Passage Peak
Passage Peak lookout is beautiful any time of the day, but is undeniably the best location on the island to watch the sun rise.
It’s a 5.3km round trip to the top, which is approximately 200m above sea level. It’s a bit of a climb, but you better believe the view is worth it.
We recommend giving yourself plenty of time to get to the top. Better to be safe than get to the top when the show’s over!
#2 Bommie Deck
If you’re looking for that perfect cocktail-in-hand travel snap to kill all of your followers with Instagram envy, Bommie Deck is the place.
Boomie Deck is an outdoor bar that extends into the marina at the Hamilton Island Yacht Club. It’s undeniably the perfect place to enjoy some late-afternoon drinks as you watch the sun set over the Whitsundays.
It’s also a choice spot for turtle watching. The ancient sea creatures can often be spotted swimming through the pristine waters below.
#3 Catseye Beach
Catseye Beach is one of the main beaches on Hamilton Island, and the perfect spot for relaxing, swimming and enjoying a whole range of water sports like kayaking, paddleboarding and snorkelling. All of which are available to hire.
Alternatively, you could always kick back on one of the beach’s many sun lounges with a good book. All that’s left for you to do is to decide how you’ll spend your day at the beach. Oh, and decide on the perfect filter (obviously).
#4 Whitehaven Beach
While it’s not technically on Hamilton Island, nearby Whitehaven Beach is one of the most iconic attractions in the Whitsunday Islands. The best part is that you can see it — and get an incredible snap — from the air.
Booking a seaplane tour from Hamilton Island allows you to explore in style. Once you’re done exploring from above, land at an area of the beach with few or no other visitors, where you are free to relax, sunbathe, swim and explore in total seclusion.
#5 The Resort Pool
If you choose to spend your time at Hamilton Island soaking up some rays by the resort pool, we won’t judge. The most important part of a tropical getaway is coming home feeling super relaxed. And if hanging out poolside gets you there, go for it.
Best of all, it’s not going to compromise your ability to snap a killer pic.
If you’re not staying at a resort, it’s no biggie. Main Pool is a public swimming pool framed by tropical gardens and inviting deck chairs — an incredible spot to relax into holiday life. It features a swim-up bar and best of all is open from sunrise to sunset.
