While Every Other Festival Cancels, Glastonbury Has Dropped A Huge 2020 Lineup
In the midst of the worldwide coronavirus outbreak, one big-name festival after another has cancelled its 2020 edition. However, there’s one notable exception: Glastonbury.
The world’s best-known festival just announced the first wave of artists for its 50th anniversary. Glastonbury is scheduled for the weekend of 24-28 June at its home of Worthy Farm in Somerset.
The UK government has not implemented a ban on large-scale events. Glastonbury is about as large as gatherings get, with capacity for 210,000 punters this summer.
Glastonbury co-organiser Emily Eavis dropped the initial lineup on her Instagram with a hopeful message: “No one has a crystal ball to see exactly where we will all be 15 weeks from now, but we are keeping our fingers firmly crossed that it will be here at Worthy Farm for the greatest show on Earth!”
Glastonbury has locked in three titanic headliners: Kendrick Lamar on Friday, Paul McCartney on Saturday and Taylor Swift on Sunday. Soul legend Diana Ross takes Sunday’s veteran slot.
The names just keep coming from there. Highlights include Charli XCX, Robyn, Thom Yorke, Lana Del Rey, Anderson .Paak & The Free Nationals and Angel Olsen.
Tones And I, Sampa The Great, The Avalanches and Crowded House are set to rep Australia and NZ at Worthy Farm.
If you were hoping to hit up an international festival in 2020, Glastonbury is a rare glimmer of hope. Already we’ve seen cancellations or postponements from Coachella, Miami’s Ultra Music Festival, SXSW and many more. Closer to home, Tasmania’s Dark Mofo and the touring Download Festival were cancelled this week.
